Start with your non-negotiables
Write down your preferred subject, study format, location and maximum total cost. Distinguish essentials from preferences. A well-known institution may still be a poor fit if it does not offer the specialisation or learning environment you need.
Read the actual curriculum
Compare semester subjects, practical work, electives and final projects. Look for prerequisites and ask how often electives actually run. For professional degrees, check the relevant recognition or approval requirements for the programme.
Evaluate outcomes carefully
Ask for programme-specific placement information, the reporting year, eligible cohort and the definition of a placement. Median outcomes and role profiles are more useful than a single highest salary. Speak with current students about teaching and support.
Visit or attend an information session
Prepare questions about class size, assessment, internships, academic support and grievance processes. For online study, request an explanation of live sessions, attendance, proctored exams and technical requirements.
